In recent years members of the health and wellness community have engaged in a debate questioning the safety and nutritional value of the use of seed oils in cooking and food production.
Many health influencers, doctors of alternative medicine and even political figures have voiced concerns about seed oils such as canola, sunflower and corn oil especially when cooked at high temperatures. They claim that excessive consumption of omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids relative to omega-3s can lead to harmful inflammation in the body causing chronic diseases such as heart disease and obesity, that common processing methods use chemical solvents leading to the formation of harmful compounds and that they are associated with ultra-processed foods which are proven to be harmful to our health.
On the other side of the debate, proponents of seed oils say they can lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels, reducing the levels of heart disease and stroke, contain omega-3 fatty acids and could even possibly support immunity and improve vision. As with most new and emerging theories from non-traditional medical sources, they claim a lack of conclusive evidence that seed oils consumed as part of a healthy balanced diet, cause harm to our health.
We certainly do not profess to be health experts or members of the medical community with a scientific opinion on this topic, but one thing we do know a lot about is food and how to make it taste amazing! We are now using Beef Tallow exclusively in our fryers and olive oil for cooking at lower temperatures. Here are our reasons for making the switch….
High Smoke Point – with a smoke point of 400 degrees F beef tallow is a stable alternative to use in our deep fryer. With proper storage and filtration, it is safe to reuse multiple times.
Rich Flavour – Tallow enhances the flavour of fries, meats and vegetables
No Harmful Processing – Unlike seed oils, which often require chemical extraction, beef tallow is made using a simple rendering process without artificial additives.
Beef tallow is a nutrient-rich, flavorful, and stable alternative to seed oils. By replacing processed seed oils with natural animal fats like tallow, you can enjoy better-tasting meals and return to a more traditional way of cooking. Whether you’re frying, roasting, or baking, using beef tallow is a simple change that can have lasting benefits.
Would you consider making the switch to beef tallow in your kitchen?
